- Classification Summary
The Intern provides administrative and operational support to assigned departments within the Village of Ruidoso. This position offers hands-on experience in local government operations, public service, and municipal functions. Interns will assist with projects, research, and day-to-day activities while gaining exposure to governmental processes and community services.
Positions will be available in Finance, Forestry, Water Resources, Fire, and Emergency Management. High school student interns will be paid $16.00/hour and college student interns will be paid $20/hour.- Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with administrative tasks including filing, scanning, data entry, and document preparation
- Support department projects such as research, reporting, and program development
- Attend meetings, workshops, and training sessions as assigned
- Assist with customer service and public inquiries (in person, phone, or email)
- Compile data and assist in preparing reports and presentations
- Provide support for special events and community initiatives
- Conduct research on municipal policies, procedures, and best practices
- Assist with updating records, spreadsheets, and databases
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in high school or college.
- Interest in public administration, business, finance, planning, HR, fire, water resources, forestry, or related field
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Coursework in public administration, political science, business, or related field
- Previous internship or volunteer experience
- Experience working with the public
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment although some internships will require more field work
- Occasional outdoor or field work depending on department assignment
- Flexible schedule may be available based on school requirements
- Part-time, temporary position
- Typical schedule: 25-39 hours per week (depending on department needs)
- Internship duration: Seasonal or semester-based
- Interns will report to an assigned Department Supervisor
- Mentorship and guidance will be provided throughout the internship
- Paid professional experience in local government
- Exposure to municipal operations
