General Purpose

Under general supervision, directs and controls landfill traffic; separates and screens waste; interacts and assists customers and the general public in waste disposal; performs general upkeep of landfill and operations; picks up metal and any other sharp objects to reduce exposure to customer flat tires; tarps and adjusts waste in bins; performs litter control and any other general labor consistent with operating a waste disposal facility; performs customer intake at assigned convenience transfer station; determines and collects disposal fees; performs basic bookkeeping functions and other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED Certification from an accredited institution and six (6) months of customer service work experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:
  • Valid New Mexico driver’s license or ability to obtain a valid New Mexico driver’s license within 30 days of hire.

This is a safety- sensitive position subject to random drug testing in accordance with County policy Article XIII Drug and Alcohol Policy and Testing-Drug Free Workplace of the Sandoval County Personnel Rules and Regulation.

Essential Job Functions

In area of assignment:

  • Safely directs traffic at appropriate landfill disposal site; assists, instructs and interacts with customers; performs waste screening for hazardous or unacceptable waste; separates and conducts general upkeep and maintenance of work station.
  • Opens and operates stations as needed/assigned; performs customer intake; determines waste disposal fees; collects and deposits cash; writes receipts and performs basic bookkeeping and accounting procedures; transfers and transports money and other accounting items; interacts with customers and answers general questions in relation to waste disposal; and accurately determines and conveys waste levels received with landfill personnel.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
